The Ministry of External Affairs has declared that first time passport applicants will be granted under the normal category within a week. The police verification will take place only after issuing the passport. First time applicants need to provide Aadhaar, Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC), Permanent Account Number (PAN) and an affidavit of Annexure-I (declaration of citizenship, family details and no criminal record). There will be no extra charge for the police verification.
The issued passports will be revoked and impounded if anything is found negative in the police verification.
Minister of External affairs Sushma Swaraj shared the news through her official twitter account.
